CARICOM Single Market is in Operation
By CSME Unit of Trinidad and Tobago
Dec 31, 2005 - 4:59:49 PM
January 1st, 2006 marks the full implementation of the Single Market component of the
CARICOM Single Market and Economy in
Barbados,
Belize,
Guyana,
Jamaica,
Suriname and
Trinidad and Tobago.
This is a crowning achievement for the Caribbean Community
(CARICOM) and indeed our region has much to celebrate and be proud of. A great deal of hard work has gone into making this dream a reality but the journey is far from over. The basic foundation has been laid in all participating Member States. With regards to Trinidad and Tobago, we have completed the basic infrastructure for the establishment of the Single Market component and a Verification Mission (Audit) undertaken by the
CARICOM Secretariat during the period September 19th to 20th 2005 noted that our country had in fact laid that infrastructure to enable the establishment of the Single Market component.
It is therefore incumbent upon us as a community now to understand the dynamics of this initiative so that we as
CARICOM Nationals can take advantage of all the benefits and opportunities that the CSME provides.
In the coming weeks we invite you to keep checking our website as our Public Education Programme (PEP) will continue to enlighten the national community on further progress and issues pertaining to the establishment of the
CSME. In particular we will “kick” our Public Education Programme into high gear with a Public Advertising Programme via the Press, Radio and Television, the continuation of our
Public Awareness Mobile Caravan
, presentations and seminars, in addition to our Website which will continue to focus primarily on
CSME related issues.
After sixteen years of planning and preparation our region can say “It’s Finally Here!”
