Fourth Annual National CSME Secondary Schools' Quiz

This is a team-based competition which is open to all Fourth Form Secondary School students and consists of Preliminary, Quarter-final, Semi-final and Final rounds. Each team comprises of four students.

 

PRELIMINARY ROUND

The Preliminary round is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education and is carded to be held in each Education District on Thursday 30th October, 2008.  The Preliminary round will be in the written form and consists of thirty (30) questions to be answered in forty-five (45) minutes.   This will constitute the first of two individual aspects of the competition as students answer questions individually.   Each School must choose only four students to participate in the Preliminary round.  

 

The school with the highest aggregate score in each district will go on to the Quarter-Final round.

 

The top three schools in the Preliminary round, regardless of district, will be given a commemorative plaque of participation and achievement.

 

QUARTER-FINAL ROUND  

The Quarter-Final round will be done in the written form and consist of thirty (30) questions to be answered in forty-five (45) minutes.   This round is the second of the two individual aspects of the competition and will be held on Thursday 6th November, 2008 at The National Library of Port of Spain (NALIS).

 

The Quarter Finals will be made up of eight (8) teams, {four (4) persons per team}, of which four (4) teams will be selected for the Semi-Final round.

 

SEMI-FINAL AND FINAL ROUNDS

The Semi-final and Final rounds will be done in the oral mode and held on Thursday 13th November, 2008 at the National Library of Port of Spain (NALIS).

 

The Semi-finals will be made up of four (4) teams, {four (4) persons per team}, of which two (2) teams will be selected for the Final Round.

 

The third (3rd ) and fourth (4th ) place positions will be decided by tallying the scores of two (2) participating teams of the Semi-Final that do not qualify for the Final round.  

 

Therefore, the teams of the Final and Semi-Final rounds will be sited in the order of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place depending on their performance.   The 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place winners will then be invited to the Prize Giving Ceremony on Thursday 20th November, 2008 at the National Library of Port of Spain (NALIS), where they will receive their prizes.   Prizes would be allocated in the following manner according to placement:

The winning school will get a Miniature Trophy and a Book Voucher of $1,000; all students belonging to the winning team will each be given a gold medal, $500 worth of Units from the UTC and a Certificate of participation.

 

2nd

-         Silver Medals

-         Plaque

-         Book Voucher for student

-         Certificates of Participation

-         Book Voucher for School

 

All students belonging to the second place team will each be given a silver medal, a Book Voucher of $300 and a Certificate of participation.   The second place school will receive a plaque and a Book Voucher of $750.

 

3rd

-         Bronze Medals

-         Plaque

-         Book Voucher for   student

-         Certificates of Participation

-         Book Voucher for school

 

All students belonging to the third place team will each be given a bronze medal, a Book Voucher of $200 and a Certificate of participation.   The third place school will receive a plaque and a Book Voucher of $500.

 

4th

-         Plaque

-         Book Voucher for   student

-         Certificates of Participation

-         Book Voucher for school

 

All students belonging to the fourth place team will each receive a Book Voucher of $ 100 and a certificate of participation.   The fourth place school will receive a plaque and Book Voucher of $350.

 

All other Participants

-         Certificates of Participation

All students who participated in the competition from the Preliminary round to the Semi-Final round will each be given Certificates of Participation.

The top three schools in the Preliminary round will each receive a plaque of participation and achievement.
